2D9: My Mum Sat in My Class
My Mum Sat in My Class
The text is an article from a teenagers magazine, released in July 1996. It is about a pupil in a comprehensive school. When the pupil was 15, (s)he was bored in class, and started mucking around.
The teachers gave him detention, reports, suspensions… to no avail. The headteacher finally had an idea: the pupil’s mother would sit in the class unless (s)he changed. The next day, she did sit in the class.
The pupil was shamed in front of his/her peers. But the others started working too, because they didn’t want their mother in front of the class.
The pupil’s results improved, and (s)he even became a trial prefect. His/her dream of becoming a vet seemed possible. However, being in a comprehensive, the chances for that are very, very slim.
We can guess that this pupil did not take the tests for grammar school. (S)He probably did not think (s)he could make it.
