2D7 Choices

2 Mars 2017 , Rédigé par JF Mopin Publié dans #2de

The text is an extract from a novel entitled About a Boy. It was written by Nick Hornby and published in 1998. It deals with the life of Nick Hornby (it is an autobiography).

The main character is Marcus. He must be twelvish. His mother is Fiona. She is divorced.

Fiona wants Marcus to be a vegetarian. But Marcus wants to go to Mc Donald’s. He does what his mother wants.

She wants him to wear old-fashioned clothes. He doesn’t want to wear them, but he does.

She wants him to listen to classical music. He wants to listen to pop music, but he does what his mother wants.

She doesn’t want him to play violent computer games, and he doesn’t. She doesn’t want him to talk about violent films, and he doesn’t. She doesn’t want him to smoke, and he doesn’t.

Fiona wants the best for Marcus, and she wants him to be different. She wants him to choose by himself.

But Fiona doesn’t FORBID him to go to Mc Donald’s. She says she would be disappointed if he did. She plays on his guilt. It works because Marcus doesn’t want to disappoint his mother.
